The Hawaii Fire Department's Station 7 located in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii is the only Rescue Station on the West side of Hawai'i Island. Two years ago, after years of having the Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Foundation help to refurbish their only working rescue boat, the 42 year old Radon stopped working, leaving the station with only the Sea Legs amphibious boat to do shoreline rescues. The amphibious boat is not capable of going out in rough seas, going for miles out to sea for rescues and is not capable of towing in larger fishing boats. This leaves any fisherman who is in distress in the these conditions to wait until the Coast Guard can arrive from Honolulu!!! Obviously this can mean the difference between life or death for anyone who is out to sea and in harm's way. The Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Foundation is working toward the purchase a new rescue boat built by HOKU Marine as depicted in the photograph. The cost of this boat and trailer is $342,927.00. All donations are tax-deductible under our 501(C)3 non-profit status with the IRS. Checks can be sent to The Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 1285 Kailua-Kona, Hawaii 96745. All donations will receive a mail letter with acknowledgment of the amount of the donation and details on the tax-deduction for accounting purposes. Rescue 7 is desperate for this life-saving piece of equipment so we hope that you will join us in the Foundation's mission to help save lives here on the Big Island. 100% of your donation will go to the purchase of the rescue boat and trailer as we are a volunteer organization that does not take any administrative fees.
